Catherine Hillis has painted all her life, winning hundreds of awards and honors at competitive shows regionally and nationally, and earning Signature Membership status with many watercolor organizations across the country. She is a respected instructor and judge and her watercolor paintings are included in museum, corporate and personal collections. This April, her article “Adjust the Heat,” will be published in Watercolor Artist Magazine. Other venues her work has been published in include Plein Air Magazine,American Artist Magazine, Splash 12, Splash 14 and Splash 17, the Artistic Touch series of watermedia books, the Washington Post and the Best of Virginia series. She has served as artist in residence in Dinan, France (2007), and at Hot Springs National Park (2010) and regularly competes in national watercolor exhibitions and plein aire competitions. Mrs. Hillis primarily paints in watermedia, including busy street scenes, coastal landscapes, and her favorite, the historic sites near her home on the Blue Ridge in Virginia.
